How do I know if my child has a speech or language problem?

Some general guidelines include your child not speaking as much or as clearly as other children his or her age. Check out our typical articulation and language charts here. If you have concerns you can schedule a free consultation with Speak Up here.

What can I do at home to help my child?

You can do a lot! Click on this link to see some ideas for parents

How much does therapy cost?

Speak Up offers a free, initial ½ hour consultation. Subsequent sessions are $40 for 30 minutes. The final ten minutes of the sessions are geared towards parental involvement and review. If you have separate documentation you would like completed (e.g for insurance reimbursement) please tell me ahead of time. I will help you where I can but requesting and receiving reimbursement from your insurance is your responsibility. We accept cash or checks. A $25 fee will be assessed for any returned checks

How long will my child need to be in therapy?

This will depend on factors such as the severity of the issue, your child's motivation and home follow-up. Data is taken at every session to help track progress on goals.

Can only kids go to speech therapy?

No. Our primary focus is on children at Speak Up, but we also work with anyone who needs help with communication. This can include adult lisps, accent reduction, social skills, and stuttering.

Do you accept insurance?

We accept Medicaid and are in the process of contracting with other insurances.

Can I be in the room during the therapy session

You can be in the room if you would like, but sometimes children can be more distracted when their parents are in the room.

Can I view the therapy session?

Absolutely! I believe that it's important for parents to see what their child is doing in therapy, so you can watch your child's therapy session via live feed.

What is your cancellation policy?

In order to offer you the highest quality of therapy, regular attendance is crucial. Therapy time cannot be reserved for clients who do not maintain consistent attendance. A cancellation is any appointment cancelled at least 24 hours in advance or before 8am on the day of the appointment. For planned absences, please let me know as soon as possible. If you fail to cancel an appointment, that time cannot be used for another client. Please be considerate. After two cancelled appointments (without notice), you may be taken off of the therapy schedule and placed on a waiting list.

Can I leave during the session?

An adult must remain ON SITE for entire session in case of an emergency, toileting issues, etc.

Where are you located?
